Derek has over 40 years’ worldwide experience gained in many specialized sectors including:

Marine civils.
Electrical civils and substation construction & dismantling.
Structural alterations and underpinning.
Panel bridge construction and refurbishment.

The scale and difficulty of the projects have varied, and Dereks tenacity and attention to detail has yielded excellent results in often very trying circumstances. Derek is passionate about things being done safely and correct, and as a result, he strives to promote MEC’s ‘Safe and Right’ mantra throughout the company

Whether it be design and build schemes, refurbishment or new build, Derek has been involved in many innovative construction techniques during his career so far.

Through his excellent personal skills and networking, he takes an active lead in Business Development and was responsible for securing a number of large key clients to the business.

Derek is renowned for his uncompromising approach to Health and Safety and champions continuous improvement to gain efficiencies. His stakeholder management skills coupled with the proven ability to motivate teams at all levels are exceptional.

Ian Cusack, Construction Director

Ian has over 30 years’ experience in managing varied and complex projects gained in many sectors including:

Due to his keen eye to detail and the specific challenges associated with specialist projects, Ian constantly ensures that our works are completed to the required standard, on time and within budget.

Ian is an accomplished problem solver and committed to ensuring customer satisfaction.

Mark Smith, Commercial Director

Mark is a versatile business leader with skills in a wide area of the engineering and business development sectors across the globe including the Middle East and USA. He has experience of starting new business with units both in the UK and Middle East in the engineering sector with companies in the £5-20 million pound range, in addition to market development for a global US based business opening new markets and developing sizeable share.

Mark advises the company on strategic planning and has introduced a project control system and SAGE accounting system. This plan included development of a detailed SWOT and PEST.

Marks major focus has been on commercial support on Major projects and to redefine MEC’s business model for commercial efficiency supported by extensive commercial experience.

Andy Beckett, Contracts Manager
